Haircuts4Homeless is a registered charity set up by veteran hairdresser Stewart Roberts. Inspired by the actions of hairdressers in various parts of the world cutting hair for the homeless, Stewart set out not only to do this himself but to build a whole community of skilled hairdresser volunteers who give their time free of charge to give haircuts for homeless people.

Over the stay at home period, what ideas or reflection have emerged that have surprised you?

The ideas and reflections that have surprised me most have been about my work life balance. I really thought that I had perfected it until I was forced off the hamster wheel. It’s made me realise that I have to be more balanced and work smarter, not harder.

What is the most powerful effect you can have on another person?

The most powerful effect on another person is to be authentic. If you learn to understand who you are and then stay true to yourself, others will believe in your truth.

Do you have a mantra, ritual or daily practice?

My mantra is, ‘Love all, Trust few and harm none’.

How do you keep your mental health in check?

I keep my mental health in check by taking constant personal inventory, promptly admitting when I’m wrong and helping others on a daily basis.

What are you grateful for in light of the global crisis?

I am grateful on a daily basis for the love of my family, the opportunities that come my way and the ability to make a difference.
