Over the stay at home period, what ideas or reflection have emerged that have surprised you?

Although this is a very difficult and painful time for many people, I have been reflecting on the good that can come out of this situation. This has come at a time when humans are looking more than ever at our own behaviour and how it impacts the world. This will hopefully be the catalyst for a change in our attitudes towards how we use the world's resources, the way we travel, our behaviour towards animals and the meat industry, human population numbers and much more.

What is the most powerful effect you can have on another person?

To show someone that you value them. Even something simple like asking their opinion shows them that their point of view is appreciated. I think one of the most powerful things you can do to show someone you care is to give them a call with no agenda other than just to see how they’re doing.

Do you have a mantra, ritual or daily practice?

My only real daily practice is walking the dog. It means I’m out in fields or in the woods every morning and I find this daily connection with nature so important, especially at a time like this. It's like pressing the ‘reset’ button every day.

How do you keep your mental health in check?

By looking after the basics - sleeping enough, eating properly and drinking enough water. If I ever start to drift into a bad mood I can usually attribute it to a lack of one or more of those basics. On a bigger scale I find it so important to spend your life doing things you enjoy doing.

What are you grateful for in light of the global crisis?

I’m grateful for family and friends and having the technology to stay connected to the world. I’m currently furloughed from my work so I’m also grateful for the opportunity to stop, switch off and take stock of everything.
