Over the stay at home period, what ideas or reflection have emerged that have surprised you?

For myself it’s been the only time I can remember where I’ve been able to evaluate what really matters. As we’ve all had to slow our daily body clock down and adjust, we’ve also found out what we can do in a day. The work/life balance has been changed forever I think.

I’ve found myself wanting to be kinder. I’ve found a sense of community that wasn’t massively prevalent. I think it’s humbled the world - we aren’t in control of the earth, and all the money and power in all the governments and agencies hasn’t made a single bit of difference. We are at the mercy of something not a person on the planet could have anticipated or can control to any real degree. It’s all a bit “smoking red seal in 1994” but I find that thought both terrifying and strangely calming at the same time.

What is the most powerful effect you can have on another person?

You have the ability to make someone feel better about themselves, which is an incredible thing to be able to do.

Do you have a mantra, ritual or daily practice?

Be nice.

How do you keep your mental health in check?

I run as often as possible. Since sobering up 2 1/2 years ago, running has been my salvation. So running, and realising that regardless of how hard or good your work is, sometimes you’ll still get kicked in the balls.

What are you grateful for in light of the global crisis?

My family and their good health - nothing else matters.
